BVI data is captured using two photos processed as silhouette outlines through the BVI software to capture the body in 3D. Both linear and volumetric measurements can be extracted. BVI obtains measurements that simply can't be obtained by human hand or by other apps in the market.
The silhouette outline and 3D data is transmitted, encrypted, and saved on a secure server. The two photographs are deleted as soon as the silhouette outlines are processed.
It takes less than a minute to receive, process measurements, and send results back to you.
Using 3D body volume imaging technology, BVI calculates risk factors associated with body weight and fat distribution.
Body composition from a 3D image of a person is patented technology in the US and each of the 28 European countries.
BVI focuses on an individual’s body shape, dividing the body shape into seven segments, so that the volume and composition of each segment can potentially be analyzed.
Using an iPad or iPhone, BVI data from the BVI Pro app can be collected anywhere with internet connection. You only need to take 2 photos and add some patient data.
BVI as a Health Risk Indicator
Here is a short film featuring Professor Jimmy Bell and Dr Louise Thomas, former scientists at the Medical Research Council and now at the University of Westminster in the UK, who have been helping validate the MRI and 3D data for BVI since 2008.
The amount of weight located in the abdomen is recognized as a significant indicator of health risk and by accessing unique MRI data, the BVI Pro app can give an indication of visceral fat, (identified as the most dangerous type of fat) from just two digital images of a patient. The BVI Pro app allows healthcare professionals and fitness trainers to:
