BVI is the only app through an API available to calculate visceral fat without the need for additional hardware or equipment. Visceral fat is toxic body fat stored within the abdominal cavity around vital organs such as the heart, liver, pancreas and intestines. Storing higher amounts of visceral fat is often associated with increased risks of a number of serious health problems, including: Type 2 diabetes, Breast cancer, Colorectal cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, Cardiovascular disease, Metabolic syndrome and other obesity related diseases
Total Body Fat
Body fat percentage is a measure of fitness level, but If your body fat percentage is too high, you have a higher risk of health problems. You need body fat to insulate and protect your organs and joints. It is unhealthy to have too much or too little fat. If your body fat percentage is too low, your resistance to diseases and your energy levels are lower, and you are at risk of health issues. Body fat percentage is a measure of fitness level. It is therefore important to calculate your body fat percentage, and stay in the healthy range.
Waist to Hip Ratio
Waist Hip Ratio is used as an indicator of health, and the risk of developing health conditions. People with "apple-shaped" bodies (with more weight around the waist) face more health risks than those with "pear-shaped" bodies who carry more weight around the hips. Waist to hip is used as a measurement of obesity, which in turn is a possible indicator of more serious health conditions. The World Health Organisation (WHO) states that abdominal obesity is defined as a waist-hip ratio above 0.90 for males and above 0.85 for females.
Your risk of some health problems is affected by where your body fat is stored, as well as by your weight. Carrying too much fat around your middle (waist) can increase your risk for type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and heart disease amongst other weight-related disease. An important issue in using and interpreting waist circumference is the usual protocol used to obtain the measurements. With BVI technology the uncertainty of an incorrect manual measurement can be eliminated with our automated technology.
