Glossary of Terms


Anthropometric System – Anthropometry, in physical anthropology, refers to the measurement of the human individual for the purposes of understanding human physical variation

Body Composition – Body Composition, is used to describe the percentages of fat, bone and muscle in human bodies, because muscular tissue takes up less space in our body than fat tissue, our body composition, as well as our weight, determines leanness

Contour – Contour of the body, the outline of a figure, body, or mass, especially of a curving form

Diagnostic performance – Diagnosis, the identification of the nature and cause of anything. Diagnosis is used in many different disciplines with variations in the use of logics, analytics, and experience to determine the cause and effect relationships
 

Obesity – Obesity, is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems
 

Volume – Volume, is how much three-dimensional space a substance, object or a shape occupies

Waist to hip ratio – Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), is the ratio of the circumference of the waist to that of the hips. It is calculated by measuring the smallest circumference of the natural waist, usually just above the belly button, and dividing by the hip circumference at its widest part of the buttocks or hip, the ratio is applied both to women and men
 

Waist Circumference – Waist Circumference indicates abdominal obesity, the risk of obesity related diseases is high if men have a waist circumference greater than 102 cm (40 in) and women have a waist circumference greater than 88 cm (35 in)
